Hello there! My name is Val and I am a runner. That statement in itself is an accomplishment. I never thought I would identify myself as a runner. In elementary school I was allergic to running. I would come up with every excuse possible to get out of running for PE. My teachers even thought there was something physically wrong with me and contemplated putting me in special ed PE.

Fast forward several years later, I picked up running again because I was a poor post college student and running outside was essentially free. I finished my first half marathon in 2010. It was one of those bucket list items that I always thought was not really attainable. I trained, but not well and felt the need to take a 6 month running hiatus. For some strange reason, I signed up for another half marathon two years later and that’s when the real running addiction started.

And the rest, as they say, is history.

Reasons why I run:

To challenge myself
To sweat out the stress
To keeps myself happy and sane
To keep up with friends, running dates are like coffee dates but better
To breathe in fresh air
To explore new places on my own two feet
To attempt the seemingly impossible
To eat an entire tub of Ben & Jerry’s half baked without feeling guilty
